Bupa awarded for doing its Personal Best

13-Feb-2012 An aged care provider has won an award for encouraging its staff to put residents at the centre of everything they do.

Bupa Care Services won the Diversity Award at the EEO Trust Work & Life Awards 2011 for their Personal Best programme.

The programme is designed to help all Bupa employees, from carers to managers, develop a resident-centric approach to their work.

It recognises and rewards employees who suggest, and follow through with, ideas that personalise care (New Zealand Doctor, 1 June).

Small gestures, big impact

Personal Best has improved life for residents in small but significant ways.

Staff came up with simple ideas like taking residents for more walks and outings, and having an activities basket tailored to encourage social interaction on lonely evenings.

"We are delighted to be recognised with the award and to be among such a high calibre of organisations in the Diversity Award category," director of organisation and development Sylvia Casella says in a media release.

"The programme's success is a credit to all of our employees."
