Vaucluse High Becomes a Nursing Home

19-Jun-2011

AFTER six years of uncertainty, neglect and vandalism, the old Vaucluse High School site has been sold and its new owners are optimistic the neighbourhood will embrace their plans.

Brother and sister Mark and Barbara Moran, executive directors of Mark Moran at Little Bay, bought the site at Laguna St, Vaucluse, for $23.5 million.

They plan to build a world-class retirement facility on the site which covers more than 12,000 sq m.

“It will be double the size of our Little Bay facility,” Mr Moran said.

“The complex will house low and high residential aged care. A decision is yet to be made about the proportion of accommodation which will be for independent living,” he said.

The pair are “deeply committed” to building a luxury centre which reflects the expectations of the people of Vaucluse, Ms Moran said.

She is leaving for Europe to review trends in retirement living.

“Expectations of retirement villages are increasing and include resort-style accommodation,” she said.

“It won’t have the feeling of a nursing home, although care will still be our primary focus.”

“The people of Vaucluse live in a beautiful environment so they’ll have an expectation that they can maintain their standard of living.”

“We’re going to see this change in retirement living more and more.”
